Jamie Bell and Mark Strong lead the cast of 6 Days, a New Zealand-UK co-production that tells of the Iranian Embassy siege that took place in London in 1980.

26 people at London’s Iranian Embassy were taken hostage by members of an Iranian Arab group, resulting in a siege that last 6 days while some of the world’s first live TV coverage captured the unfolding events.

At least from the trailer, 6 Days looks like a well crafted reenactment of the deadly situation, with a few viewpoints offered up to add to the tension. While it remains to be seen if it draws much of an audience, this marks yet another interesting choice for filmmaker Toa Fraser, whose credits include solid, underseen efforts such as the 2008 period dramedy My Talks with Dean Spanley and the 2014 Maori action-adventure The Dead Lands.

6 Days, also starring Abbie Cornish and Martin Shaw, is scheduled to open in New Zealand on September 7.

Synopsis for 6 Days:

6 DAYS is a taut thriller telling the incredible true story of terror after six heavily-armed gunmen invaded the Iranian Embassy in London, taking 26 people hostage. Negotiators, police, politicians and the military wrestle over the correct response, all observed by some the world’s first live TV news coverage.
