The first trailer has been released for A Cure for Wellness, an upcoming thriller from director Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean).
The film tells of a young executive (Dane DeHaan) who is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from a mysterious “wellness center.” It’s a strange place, and it doesn’t take long for him to suspect their miraculous treatment aren’t what they seem. To make things all the more unsettling, he soon finds himself diagnosed with the same illness the guests there apparently have.
Verbinski has tackled various type of pictures throughout his career. Kicking off with DreamWorks family film Mousehunt, his career has touched on dark-comedy (The Mexican), a stand-out horror remake (The Ring), a strong Nicolas Cage dramedy (The Weather Man), blockbuster franchise building (Pirates of the Caribbean), unique animation (Rango) and a big-budgeted disappointment (The Lone Ranger).
His latest is certainly an intriguing-looking film, with a ton of awesome visuals shown off in the first trailer below. We’re also digging that much of the plot is being kept under wraps. Here’s hoping for something riveting, creepy and original with this one.
A Cure for Wellness, also starring Jason Isaacs, Mia Goth and Adrian Schiller, will hit the US on February 17 and arrives in Australia on February 23, 2017.
