‘A Mouthful of Air’ Trailer: Amanda Seyfried Faces Her Mental Health in Upcoming Drama

Sony Pictures Entertainment

Sony has released the trailer for upcoming drama A Mouthful of Air, led by Amanda Seyfried.

The film follows Julie Davis (Seyfried), a bestselling children’s author with what seems to be a healthy relationship with her husband (Finn Wittrock) and child. While Julie’s books focus on unlocking childhood fears, she hasn’t tackled the dark secret that has haunted her own life. Following the birth of her second child, Julie finds herself facing severe postpartum depression and thrown into a powerful battle to survive.

A Mouthful of Air is both written and directed by first-time filmmaker Amy Koppelman, based on her own 2003 novel of the same name. Koppelman previously produced and co-wrote the screenplay for 2015 Sarah Silverman-starring drama I Smile Back, an adaptation of her 2008 novel.

“Amanda and I hope that — in some small way — Julie’s story will help remove the stigma of mental illness from motherhood or at the very least help women talk more openly about how scary it is to be a mom,” Koppelman said in a statement when Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions announced it had acquired global rights to the Maven Screen Media project in April. “We are so grateful to everyone who helped bring this meaningful story to the screen.”

Also starring Paul Giamatti, Amy Irving, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael Gaston, A Mouthful of Air will be released in US cinemas on October 29th.
