A follow-up to 2018 dark comedy-thriller A Simple Favour is now in the works at Lionsgate and Amazon Studios.

The first film’s two leads, Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, are reportedly on board the sequel, with director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) and screenwriter Jessica Sharzer (Nerve, American Horror Story) also set to return in the same capacity. Deadline broke the news, reporting that Feig is also attached to produce alongside Laura Fisher, with Sharzer also serving as executive producer.

A Simple Favour did well both critically (a solid 84% on Rotten Tomatoes) and financially, earning a worldwide box office that topped $US97 million from a budget of around $US20 million. And with a film that left the door open for a second chapter, a sequel was a no-brainer.

Based on the 2017 book of the same name by author Darcey Bell, A Simple Favour had Kendrick playing a widowed single mother and vlogger, Stephanie, who befriends the secretive, upper-class Emily (Lively), the mother of her son’s schoolmate. The two quickly become friends, but things take a turn when Emily suddenly goes missing. Stephanie decides to investigate. The cast included Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Rupert Friend, and Jean Smart.
