‘A Wrinkle In Time’: Ava DuVernay to Direct Disney Adaptation from ‘Frozen’ Writer

Ava DuVernay,

Ava DuVernay, who has been in high demand since impressing with her 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. picture Selma, has signed up to direct a film for Disney.

DuVernay has been placed at the helm of A Wrinkle In Time, Disney’s planned adaptation of the 1963 Newbery Medal-winning fantasy novel written by Madeleine L’Engle.

The book tells the story of a young girl who takes part in a search for her father, a scientist who goes missing after working on a project called a tesseract. This project involves being transported to a fifth dimension, complete with inhabited planets.

The film comes with a screenplay written by Jennifer Lee, who wrote and co-directed the huge Disney hit that is Frozen.

The only question now is whether DuVernay will be jumping on A Wrinkle In Time first or DreamWorks’ planned sci-fi outing Intelligent Life, which she also has an offer for. Intelligent Life comes with script by Jurassic World scribes Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, and will see 12 Years A Slave Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o star in a story about a UN worker who is employed in a department designed to represent mankind if there was ever contact with extra terrestrials. He soon falls for a mystery woman…who happens to be an alien.

Both A Wrinkle In Time and Intelligent Life are circling pre-productions stages.
