UPDATED: Anchorman 2 Returning to US Cinemas in R-Rated Version

If you loved Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, get ready to cheer, if you hated it, get ready to roll those eyeballs even harder. Paramount has announced that they are to release Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues: Super Sized R Rated Version, which clocks in at more than two hours and boasts a brand new rating. Paramount promises that the new film will contain exactly “763 entirely new jokes.”

This is similar to when Paramount delivered Wake Up, Ron Burgundy with the first film’s DVD release. Since many of the jokes in these films were ad-libbed in director Adam McKay’s spontaneous format of humour, there will no doubt be plenty of extra footage to re-edit.  “When my editor told me we had a whole different version of the movie that was more than two hours long with nearly 800 new jokes, I was shocked,” McKay said. “But when Paramount said they were actually going to put it in theaters, I did a 1950s spit take.  If you’re a hardcore Anchorman fan go see this. If you’re not, stay very far away.”

According to BoxOfficeMojoAnchorman 2: The Legend Continues has earned over $169 million in worldwide box-office receipts. Not bad at all, when you consider the comedy only had a production budget of $50 million.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues: Super Sized R Rated Version will be hitting U.S. cinemas on February 28th, but only for one week.

UPDATE: In Australia, debuting April 9, 2014 as a home entertainment first, the Blu-ray version will include the never-before-seen “Super Sized” version of the film, with more than four hours of bonus features.

Here’s the official U.S. trailer for the new version:
