It isn’t rare for Marvel and DC’s heroes to get animated films, but this one’s certainly got some high-profile talent bringing it to life.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directors known for their work on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 & 22 Jump Street, and a little movie you may have heard of, The Lego Movie, are set to spearhead an animated Spider-Man feature.
Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman made the announcement at CinemaCon, revealing that Lord & Miller would be writing the treatment and masterminding the overall project.
The animated picture isn’t going to be connected to the live-action film franchise, which will see Spider-Man have his first Sony-Marvel team-up hit the U.S. on July 28, 2017, and will instead exist independently.
The animated Spider-Man film, which will have Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and former Sony topper Amy Pascal as producers, is set to be released in the U.S. on July 20, 2018.
