Disney has unveiled the title of Marvel‘s next Ant-Man film and have made some interesting new casting announcements.
Get ready for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, confirming that Quantum Realm shenanigans are again in store for our size-changing heroes.
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will be returning as Scott Lang / Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne / The Wasp, respectively, along with returning cast members Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer. The major new cast mates: Kathryn Newton (The Society, Big Little Lies) and Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country).
Newton is set to play Cassie Lang, Scott’s daughter. This appears to be a recasting, as Emma Furhmann previously played adult Cassie in Avengers: Infinity War. And the size-changing abilities certainly run in the family. In the comics, Cassie has gone by superhero aliases Stature and Stinger, and has been a member of the Young Avengers.
As for Major, he’s been cast as the villain Kang The Conqueror, a genius historical scholar and master physicist who, in the comics, is a time traveller and has been mostly depicted as an opponent of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. Could there be a tie-in element to Marvel’s announced Fantastic Four movie? Kang’s time travel narratives have seen him take on several alternate versions, including future and past heroic selves, Immortus and Iron Lad.
Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed is back to direct the third film, which is expected to hit cinemas in 2022.
