Anthony Mackie Has Locked in a Deal to Lead Marvel’s ‘Captain America 4’

Marvel Studios

Anthony Mackie will officially be carrying the shield in Captain America 4, the first film in the MCU he will lead.

In case you didn’t know by now (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoiler ahead), The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Mackie’s Sam Wilson struggle with the idea of taking on the mantle of Captain America, following the events of Avengers: Endgame. By the end of the season, Wilson wholeheartedly accepted the role, complete with a new Captain America uniform and flight suit from the Wakandans.

As for the still-untitled Captain America 4, Deadline reports that Mackie has now closed a deal to star. There’s still no word on whether Sebastian Stan will also be on board as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier.

The fourth Cap film in the MCU is being written by Malcolm Spellman, creator and head writer of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, along with Dalan Musson, who was a staff writer on the series. As of yet, no director has been named.

Following the multiverse narrative firmly implemented with Loki, and currently being explored further with animated series What If? and poised to be pivotal in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel has smartly lined up unlimited doors they could go through as Phase Four unfolds. Exciting stuff ahead!
