In case you hadn’t heard by now, Michael Fassbender will be taking on the lead role in the big-screen adaptation of the beloved Assassin’s Creed video game series, and our first look of the actor in character is here.
Yahoo! Movies has unveiled the first image of Fassbender in costume as Aguilar, the 15th century ancestor of Callum Lynch (also Fassbender). According to the official synopsis, present-day Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Aussie director Justin Kurzel, who shook screens with his disturbing debut Snowtown (aka The Snowtown Murders), is reuniting with his Macbeth stars Fassbender and Cotillard here. Macbeth‘s been getting rave early reviews, add to that the potency of Snowtown‘s unsettling tone, and you’ve got yourself quite an interesting choice for the director of a high-profile video game adaptation.
We’ve been fans of Fassbender ever since his incredible turn in Steve McQueen’s Hunger, so we’ve got high hopes to see what an actor of his calibre can bring to this.
Assassin’s Creed is currently lined up for U.S. release on December 21, 2016.
