Full Attack on Titan Trailer Delivers Epic-Scale Action

We thought that first 30-second trailer was pretty slick, but it’s nothing compared to this awesome 3-minute subtitled look at the upcoming live-action Attack on Titan movies.

Based on the fantastic manga, which has been adapted into an impressive anime series, Attack on Titan tells of a world in which humans live inside sheltered cities to protect them from human-eating giants. A band of humans, including Eren Yeager, who joins the military with his adopted sister and childhood friend, join forces to fight these humungous monstrosities.

This looks big – like, ridiculously big. Fans of the anime are (hopefully) going to be in for a treat as the titular creatures come to life in live-action form. The new trailer provides plenty of footage of the two-part film, giving us a look at the appropriately terrifying renditions of the titular Titans and introducing us to the human heroes that will try bring them down. We can’t wait.

Attack on Titan will hit Japan and Japan’s IMAX on August 1, while the sequel, Attack on Titan: End of the World, is set for Japan release on September 19.

Synopsis for Attack on Titan:

The sudden arrival of the Titans–mysterious, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour human beings one after the other–brings mankind to the brink of extinction. Fast-forward more than 100 years later. What remains of the human population now live in relative peace behind massive walls that were erected to defend themselves against the Titans. Yet, once again, that peace is shattered when a Titan measuring over 50 meters tall smashes through the wall, allowing a horde of other Titans to enter.

The protagonist, Eren, had been resigned to a life confined behind these walls. Nothing I do would make a difference, he thought. But when he joins the “Outer Wall Restoration Team” set up to fight against the Titans, he is reunited with Mikasa, a childhood friend and someone he had long rued not being able to save. The new recruits embark on a mission to obtain explosives, which have become rare and precious, before getting past the waves of Titans to plug the gaping hole in the wall, with humanity’s survival on the line. Will there be a future for Eren and Mikasa… and for mankind itself?
