‘Back to the Outback’ Teaser Trailer: Aussie Animals Dance to “Coincidance” in Teaser for Netflix Animated Film

A scorpion kills an unsuspecting koala in Netflix‘s brutal look at the threat-filled lives of animals in the ruthless Australian wild. Okay, not really, but a scorpion does sting a koala!

Take a look at the teaser trailer that’s arrived for upcoming Netflix animated film Back to the Outback, an Aussie-US co-production featuring an array of Aussie talent. The voice cast includes Isla Fisher, Tim Minchin, Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, Miranda Tapsell, Angus Imrie, Rachel House, Keith Urban, Celeste Barber, Wayne Knight, and Jacki Weaver.

The plot follows a number of Australian creatures who, sick of being gawked at by humans, decide to break out of the Outback zoo and journey back to the wild. More detail in the official synopsis below the video.

The simple teaser below introduces a few of the lead animal characters as they dance to viral song “Coincidance”,  the comedy track from YouTuber The Handsome Dancer (actor and comedian James Manzello), which had this go up around 6 years ago and had it really hit big in the past year or so thanks to viral TikTok videos. The characters in the dance off: Pretty Boy (Minchin), a cute but obnoxious koala; Maddie (Fisher), a kind-hearted snake; Frank (Pearce), a lovelorn hairy spider; Zoe (Tapsell), a self-assured thorny devil; and Nigel (Imrie), a sensitive scorpion.

The film marks the directorial debut for Clare Knight, editor on the Kung Fu Panda trilogy and The LEGO Movie 2, and Harry Cripps, a screenwriter whose credits include The Dry and Penguin Bloom. Cripps penned the script with Gregory Lessans.

Back to the Outback will be streaming on Netflix from December 10th.

Official synopsis for Back to the Outback:

Tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they’re monsters, a ragtag group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plot a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback, a place where they’ll fit in without being judged for their scales and fangs. Leading the group is Maddie (Isla Fisher), a poisonous snake with a heart of gold, who bands together with a self-assured Thorny Devil lizard Zoe (Miranda Tapsell), a lovelorn hairy spider Frank (Guy Pearce), and a sensitive scorpion Nigel (Angus Imrie). But when their nemesis — Pretty Boy (Tim Minchin), a cute but obnoxious koala — unexpectedly joins their escape, Maddie and the gang have no choice but to take him with them. So begins a hair-raising and hilarious road trip across Australia, as they are pursued by a zookeeper Chaz (Eric Bana) and his adventure-seeking mini-me (Diesel Cash La Torraca).

Directed by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps, and also featuring the voices of Rachel House, Keith Urban, Celeste Barber, Wayne Knight, Lachlan Ross Power, and Jacki Weaver, BACK TO THE OUTBACK is an animated adventure that proves just because something’s different, doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful.
