Like Bad Grandpa, which had Johnny Knoxville playing an 86-year-old grandfather on a road trip with his grandson, Bad Trip also has a narrative thread while insane hidden camera pranks are played on unsuspecting individuals. The “plot” has André and Howery playing Chris and Bud, two best friends that decide to go on a cross-country road trip to New York City. They make the poor decision of taking the car belonging to Bud’s sister (Haddish) – and yeah, she ain’t happy.
Pranks include Haddish breaking into a cop car, Howery being stuck in a port-a-loo (you just know that thing will spill over), and André deciding to take a selfie in a gorilla enclosure. I’m a sucker for hidden camera prank shows and YouTube clips, and some of these set-ups look pretty damn funny. Not expecting art here; crack me up and I’ll be happy.
The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who’s worked on The Eric Andre Show as director, producer and writer for years. Sakurai came up with the idea for Bad Trip with André and Dan Curry (also a writer on The Eric Andre Show).
Bad Trip will be streaming on Netflix from March 26th.
