Idris Elba takes on the king of the jungle in the upcoming survival thriller Beast, which has its first trailer available for you to watch below.

The film tells of what unfolds when recently widowed husband Dr. Nate Daniel (Elba) returns to South Arica on a long-planned trip with his daughters (played by Iyana Halley and Leah Sava Jeffries). They join old family friend and wildlife biologist Martin (Sharlto Copley) on an expedition into a game reserve, where things soon take a deadly turn. A lion, who sees all humans as the enemy after having survived blood-thirsty poachers, has them in its sights.

A potentially thrilling nailbiter here. The film is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who’s in his element with the survival genre having previously directed Everest, Adrift, and The Deep (2012). Kormákur’s credits also include Mark Wahlberg thrillers 2 Guns and Contraband. The screenplay, based on an original story by Jaime Primak Sullivan (Breaking In), was written by Ryan Engle (Non-Stop, The Commuter, Rampage).

Beast will be in U.S. cinemas on August 19th and Australia cinemas on August 25th.
