‘Beckett’ Trailer: John David Washington Goes from Tourist to Fugitive in Netflix Thriller

Netflix

Netflix has released the trailer for Beckett, an upcoming thriller that finds John David Washington (Tenet, BlackKklansman) on the run in Greece.

Washington plays the titular Beckkett, an American tourist in Greece who finds himself in quite the predicament after a devastating accident. Trying to find the whereabouts of his girlfriend (Alicia Vikander), he discovers that he is being set up and heads cross-country to the American embassy in Athens to clear his name. All the while, authorities close in, political unrest mounts, and he falls even deeper into a dangerous web of conspiracy.

There’s a Roman Polanski-esque vibe to this thriller, which comes from director Ferdinando Cito Filomarino, making his sophomore feature effort following little-seen 2015 drama Antonia. Perhaps the film’s biggest behind-the-scenes name is Luca Guadagnino, the Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria director attached as producer here. The supporting cast includes Boyd Holbrook (Logan, The Predator) and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread).

Watch out for Beckett, which will first have its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival on August 4, to begin streaming on Netflix on August 13th.
