Take a look at the teaser trailer that Amazon Prime Video has unveiled for Being the Ricardos, an Aaron Sorkin-written-and-directed feature starring Nicole Kidman as screen icon Lucille Ball and Javier Bardem as Cuban-American star and Ball’s then-husband Desi Arnaz.
Sorkin, who looked at Steve Jobs through the lens of three iconic product launches with his fantastic screenplay for 2015 Danny Boyle-directed pic Steve Jobs, here looks at a rocky period for Ball and Arnaz through the lens of one week as they film their groundbreaking sitcom I Love Lucy. Ball and Arnaz’s complex romantic and professional relationship is tested when shocking personal accusations, a political smear and cultural taboos all collide.
“You know I did this show so that Desi and I could be together?” Kidman’s Ball says in the trailer. “I had no idea it was going to be a hit.”
The teaser below avoids showcasing much of Kidman’s portrayal of the beloved star, who, apart from acting, was also a comedian, model, producer, and was the first woman to run a major television studio. It sure is a promising team here, with Sorkin on writing duties as well as directing; two Oscar winners as the title leads; cinematography by renowned David Fincher collaborator Jeff Cronenweth (Fight Club, Gone Girl, The Social Network); and editing by Oscar nominee Alan Baumgarten (The Trail of the Chicago Seven, American Hustle).
Being the Ricardos, also starring J. K. Simmons, Nina Arianda, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, Jake Lacy, and Clark Gregg, among others, will have a limited theatrical release in the US from December 10th before streaming on Prime Video from December 21st.
