‘Hypnotic’: Robert Rodriguez Has a Ben Affleck & Alice Braga Action Thriller Set to Start Filming This Year

Sin City and Alita: Battle Angel filmmaker Robert Rodriguez will soon be starting production on an action thriller led by Ben Affleck and Queen of the South star Alice Braga.

The project is titled Hypnotic and will tell of a detective who, while investigating a string of high-end crimes, becomes embroiled in a case involving his missing daughter and a secret government program.

Rodriguez wrote the screenplay for Hypnotic alongside Max Borenstein, who’s had a hand in shaping Legendary’s MonsterVerse, writing 2014’s Godzilla and co-writing both Kong: Skull Island and this year’s Godzilla vs. Kong.

Deadline reports that Hypnotic will be shooting in Austin, Texas from September 20th. The film was originally intended to start production back in April 2020, but was reportedly pushed back due to the pandemic and associated insurance issues.

On the acting front, Affleck has a number of projects on the horizon, including Ridley Scott-directed period pic The Last Duel, with Matt Damon and Adam Driver; thriller Deep Water, co-starring Ana de Armas and directed by Adrian Lyne (Flashdance, Fatal Attraction, Unfaithful); and George Clooney-directed drama The Tender Bar, starring Tye Sheridan.

Rodriguez’s most recent feature was 2020 Netflix family film We Can Be Heroes, a follow-up to his 2005 film The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D.
