Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘Spider-Man 3’: Doctor Strange is New Mentor for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker

Doctor Strange will have a key role to play in Spider-Man 3.

Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising his role as Stephen Strange in the still-untitled third Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Tom Holland continuing on as Peter Parker.

THR broke the news of Cumberbatch’s casting in the film, reporting that he’ll be taking on “the mentor role” to Peter Parker that Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury have previously played.

Strange’s inclusion could give us a good idea as to what’s about to unfold with… a potential Spider-Verse. Don’t forget that also on the way is the importantly-titled Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which Deadline reports he’ll be jumping on after he films his Spider-Man part.

AND, don’t forget that Jamie Foxx was recently cast in the next Spidey adventure as Electro, who he played in the Andrew Garfield-starring The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and J.K. Simmons’ return as J. Jonah Jameson was a reveal at the end of Far from Home. So yeah, the multi-verse narrative is coming… could Spider-Man 3 see Garfield and Tobey Maguire appear as other Spider-Men , too?

Both the next Spider-Man, with Homecoming and Far from Home director Jon Watts back at the helm, and Multiverse of Madness, to be directed by Sam Raimi (!), are expected to begin filming this month.
