The always hard-working Samuel L. Jackson plays the U.S. President in Big Game, a British-Finnish co-production that could either be a downright awesome bit of fun, or an eye-rollingly stupid outing. We’ve got our fingers firmly crossed for the former, and if this trailer is any sort of signal, we could be in luck.
Written and directed by Jalmari Helander (Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale), Big Game tells the story of a young teenager (Onni Tommila) hunting in the Finnish wilderness who ends up helping rescue the President when Air Force One is shot down near his campsite.
That first trailer showed off the wild plot and provided a look at some of the film’s more outlandish sequences, but this new international trailer takes the action and simply runs with it. The mayhem looks impressive, the tone is silly and infectious, and Jackson is…Jackson, playing the President. We’re in.
Oh, Ray Stevenson, Felicity Huffman, Victor Garber, Ted Levine, and Jim Broadbent are in it as well.
While no U.S. release date has been announced quite yet, Finland gets it on March 25 and the U.K. gets it on May 8.
Official synopsis for Big Game:
When Air Force One is shot down by terrorists leaving the President of the United States stranded in the wilderness, there is only one person around who can save him – a 13-year old boy called Oskari. In the forest on a hunting mission to prove his maturity to his kinsfolk, Oskari had been planning to track down a deer, but instead discovers the most powerful man on the planet in an escape pod. With the terrorists closing in to capture their own “Big Game” prize, the unlikely duo must team up to escape their hunters. As anxious Pentagon officials observe the action via satellite feed, it is up to the President and his new side-kick to prove themselves and survive the most extraordinary 24 hours of their lives.
