Okay, so it’s also of his back, and he’s in fitness-style spandex, butt still.
“This is our final week of production for the filming of BLACK ADAM,” Johnson shared in the post, which you can check out below. “Almost two years of hard core, intense training, diet, character prep and execution. You’ve been right there rockin’ with me all this time. And now it’s my turn and I hope to deliver the definitive antihero you deserve.”

The wrestler-turned-screen superstar has been attached to play the DC antihero since at least 2014 – so it’s certainly been a longtime coming. Johnson reunites with Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra for this adventure, which will serve as as Johnson’s introduction to the DC universe ahead of what is planned to be a multi-film trajectory for the character.
In the comics, Black Adam was originally drawn up as a supervillain that goes up against DC hero Captain Marvel (who was later renamed Shazam to avoid confusion with, you know, Marvel), but over the years the character developed into more of an antihero. If all goes well, it’s safe to assume that down the line we’ll see Johnson sharing the screen with some of DC’s major superheroes, such as Henry Cavill’s (?) Superman.
Also starring Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate / Kent Nelson, Noah Centineo as Al Rothstein / Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz / Isis, and Aldis Hodge as Carter Hall / Hawkman, Black Adam is scheduled to open in Australian cinemas on July 28th and US cinemas on July 29th, 2022.
