The goodies from virtual event DC FanDome just keep on coming.
Take a look at an exciting first look promo that’s been released for Black Adam, the long-awaited DC film that has Dwayne Johnson playing the titular comic book antihero. The video below includes the first clip from the film, unveiling one of the film’s early moments with Black Adam.
The promo kicks off with appearances from a few of the cast members making up part of the film’s Justice Society of America; Pierce Brosnan (Kent Nelson / Doctor Fate), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone) and Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher). There are also a few behind-the-scenes snippets as the film is hyped up.
“I’ve never seen the likes it before,” says Brosnan. “Having done James Bond for ten years, four films, nothing compares to this.”
And then, of course, there’s the man himself, The Rock. “This character, this film, this universe has been a gigantic passion project of mine for a very long time,” Johnson says, nodding to the fact that his name has been with this project, in way or another, since around 2006. “It’s the kind of project that I know comes along once in a lifetime. And the truth is, I was born to play Black Adam.”
At the 2:45 mark, a clip from the film begins, showing that Johnson’s DC character will be far from a heroic nice guy – at least to start with. Black Adam ruthlessly electrocutes a guy, pulverising him down to his bones, before catching a bullet and flying up. Can’t wait to see more.
Black Adam reunites Johnson with Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Non-Stop, Orphan). The screenplay was penned by Adam Sztykiel (Rampage, Due Date) and writing duo Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani (The Mauritanian, Informer).
Also starring Sarah Shahi as university professor and resistance fighter Adrianna Tomaz, Black Adam will be in Australian cinemas on July 28 and US cinemas on July 29, 2022.
