An energetic new trailer has arrived for Blade Runner 2049, offering new tidbits of footage and simplifying the plot.
Jared Leto’s powerful scientist Niander Wallace gets the spotlight in this new marketing piece, which highlights the character’s desire to push replicants to the forefront. “Replicants are the future of the species. But I can only make so many.”
“We have to stop him,” says new blade runner K (Ryan Gosling), who tracks down former LAPD blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) to ask for help.
As with the previous trailers, the visuals are stunning. Many have been understandably apprehensive at the thought of a Blade Runner sequel, but there’s a very good chance director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival) is the man to deliver a worthy follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 picture. Here’s hoping.
Blade Runner 2049, also starring Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright and Mackenzie Davis, arrives Down Under on October 5 and opens in the U.S. on October 6.
