Blue Thunder Remake Replaces Chopper with Drone


There’s a Blue Thunder remake on the way from Columbia Pictures, and the film’s machinery of focus will be a military drone as opposed to a helicopter.

THR broke the news that a remake of the 1983 Roy Scheider-starring action-drama is on the way, reporting that former Marvel Studios exec and screenwriter Craig Kyle is attached to writing duties.

Fifty Shades of Grey producer Dana Brunetti is producing the project for Trigger Street Productions, while President of Production Michael De Luca will be overseeing it. Escape Artists is also producing, with producer Jason Blumenthal (The Equalizer) on board as the studio’s lead.

The original film saw Scheider play a pilot hired to test a new experiment police helicopter. It isn’t long before he begins to suspect that the new vehicle may have sinister implications. The new film is expected to follow a similar plot path, but will instead be tying in with the rise in drone technology and surveillance.
