Take a look at the big new trailer released for Bright, the upcoming Netflix feature starring Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Lucy Fry and Noomi Rapace.
Directed by Suicide Squad helmer David Ayer, Bright is set in an alternate present-day where humans live – or at least attempt to live – alongside orcs, elves and fairies. Smith plays Ward, a human cop who is partnered up with an orc, Jakoby (Edgerton). During a routine night patrol, the pair discover a deadly, thought-to-be-forgotten relic that grants wishes – something everyone will be coming for.
This looks to be an interesting mash up of genres and themes. It’s firmly in line with Ayer’s cops-on-the-streets focus that he’s shown in Training Day (which he wrote), Street Kings, Sabotage and End of Watch, but with a heavy infusion of fantasy thanks to the screenplay by Chronicle scribe Max Landis (which Ayer worked on). It certainly appears to be an original picture in a time filled with sequels, remakes and franchise entries. Fingers firmly crossed.
Bright, also starring Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz, Margaret Cho, Brad William Henke, Dawn Olivieri, and Kenneth Choi, will be hitting Netflix on December 22.
Synopsis for Bright:
Set in an alternate present-day, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a deadly, thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.
