Captain America: The Winter Soldier Ad Drops Spoiler

Okay, so we’ve complained about trailers giving away too much information before, countless times, as we’re sure many others have as well. Now, the latest TV spot released for Captain America: The Winter Soldier may not be as spoilerific as we fear, but then again, maybe it is.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEADThe first few trailers for Marvel’s upcoming sequel saw Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury under attack by the Winter Soldier. The snippets gave us a look at a sequence in which Fury is attacked in his car. Another snippet sees Fury in what looks like surgery as Cap and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow look on, followed by a mournful Cap and Widow in front of a sheet-covered corpse. Here are stills from the trailers, below them we discuss the possible spoiler unveiled in a just-released TV spot:

So, the above stills give us a good understanding that Nick Fury goes through a pretty bad time in Cap’s next big-screen outing. The new TV spot simply nails it home. The 30-second spot begins with the footage we’ve seen before of the attack on Fury. Then, jarringly, Cap’s voice-over states: “Fury’s last words were not to trust anyone.” Yeah, last words. Maybe it’s just us, but that seems like a pretty big indication that Fury doesn’t quite survive the ordeal. Maybe. We don’t quite know what to make of the fact that this bomb was dropped during a quick TV spot either. Jackson has pointed out that he will be in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, but could that be in flashback form? Maybe he’ll die, but not really die. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. showed us that characters don’t always stay dead in Marvel’s universe, with Agent Phil Coulson looking quite alive as the lead character in the series.

Here’s the TV spot:

So, what does this all mean? Does Nick Fury actually die? Will Samuel L. Jackson allow this to happen? Will film trailers ever go back to simply teasing us? Will you comment below?

One Comment on “Captain America: The Winter Soldier Ad Drops Spoiler”

  1. I doubt Fury will bite the dust. The other trailers show a bruised Fury telling Captain America that he’s in charge now. Possibly handing on the reigns?
