‘Castle’ TV Series Cancelled After Eight Seasons

Castle, the long-running procedural airing on U.S. network ABC, has been cancelled.

The sudden cancellation means the season 8 finale, set to air next week, will be the final episode of the entire series.

Castle creator Andrew Marlowe took to Twitter to confirm the news:

The series has enjoyed a strong run for much of its eight seasons, although ratings have dropped over time. Arguably one of the biggest set backs came in April, when it announced that series co-star Stana Katic would not be returning past season 8. Considering a big element of the series surrounded the relationship between novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and NYPD captain Kate Beckett, fans were understandably upset at Katic’s departure.

Castle had its premiere in March, 2009. The series finale will air on ABC on May 16 (U.S. date).
