Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have signed up to star in a musical comedy for Universal Pictures.
Universal has come out on top against other studios wanting the project, which will see Tatum, Gordon-Levitt, and Wicked producer Marc Platt producing under their banners, Free Association, hitRECord Films, and Marc Platt Productions respectively.
THR broke the news, reporting that Gordon-Levitt came up with the idea for the film with Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and 21 Jump Street co-writer Michael Bacall, who is now attached to pen the screenplay.
Plot details aren’t yet known, but the film is being described as “an R-rated musical comedy featuring two pilots on a misadventure.”
Gordon-Levitt showed off his singing abilities in a great scene in (500) Days of Summer and Tatum, apart from showing off his dance moves in Step Up, Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL, has an acclaimed dance and song number in the latest Coen bros picture, Hail, Caesar!. Next up for Gordon-Levitt is Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden picture, Snowden, lined up for U.S. release on May 13. Tatum is in the pre-production phase of his X-Men spinoff film, Gambit, set for release sometime in 2017.
