‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Trailer: The Teenage Witch Gets a Dark Netflix Series

Netflix

We’re a long way from that Melissa Joan Hart sitcom.

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a new screen iteration of the Archie Comics character that first appeared on the page in 1962. Netflix describes this new take on the teen witch as being “in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist,” and the moody teaser trailer below certainly provides hints of the show’s dark tones.

If you’re a fan of that other Archie adaptation on The CW, there’s a good chance you may in for a treat here. Riverdale creator and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is also behind this one, along with fellow Riverdale EP Greg Berlanti.

Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka plays Sabrina in the series, which features an extended ensemble that includes Aussie actress Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Ross Lynch, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Richard Coyle, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Abigail Cowen, Lachlan Watson, Bronson Pinchot, and Gavin Leatherwood.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be hitting Netflix on October 26.

Official synopsis for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.
