Marvel Entertainment

Chris Evans has put the shield down.

While it wasn’t a clear farewell, it certainly appears that Evans has said goodbye to playing Captain America, posting a bittersweet tweet to mark his wrap on filming Avengers 4. The still-untitled Avengers film was filmed off the back of Avengers: Infinity War, but additional shoots have continued throughout this year.

“It was an emotional day to say the least,” Evans tweeted. “Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honour.”

Evans’ contract wraps with Avengers 4, so the 2019 film could certainly mark the end of the road for Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Whether that means Rogers will be biting the dust or riding off into the sunset remains to be seen.

Fans reactions have been flowing since Evans’ tweet…

Avengers 4, which will also mark a contract end for MCU stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, will be hitting US cinemas on 3 May 2019.
