Colin Farrell Joins Harry Potter Spin-Off ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’

The cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Warner Bros.’ upcoming Harry Potter spin-off marking the screenwriting debut of author J.K. Rowling, continues to grow.

THR reports that Colin Farrell is set to join Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol in the film, playing Graves, a wizard that our lead character, Newt (Redmayne), meets in New York.

The franchise is to tell the story of Newt Scamander, the “magizoologist” who encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, eventually writing Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, a textbook used by Harry Potter and his fellow pupils at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The first film is being directed by David Yates, who directed the last four movies in the Harry Potter film franchise. The film is set for U.S. release on November 18, 2016, its sequel will hit screens in 2018, and the third outing will be released in 2020.

There’s no word yet on whether Farrell, who can be seen in season 2 of HBO’s True Detective, has signed up for multiple pictures.
