Amazon Prime Video has released a big new trailer for long-awaited comedy sequel Coming 2 America, set to hit the streaming service on March 5th.
Eddie Murphy is back as Akeem, now the newly-crowned king of the African nation of Zamunda. When he discovers he has an heir (played by Jermaine Fowler) back in Queens, New York, he and his confidant Seem (Arsenio Hall, back in the role) head to the U.S. and take the young man – and his mother (Leslie Jones) – to Africa.
Until now, the general logline going around for the sequel seemingly set the film back in Queens, but the new trailer shows the main chunk of it will actually take place in Zamunda. It’s a fun trailer, even if it does, as trailers commonly do now, show a few too many plot turns.
Also of the note: The sequel will be perhaps less edgier than the first film. In the U.S. the 1988 original film had an R rating, whereas the upcoming sequel has been handed a PG-13 rating for “crude and sexual content, language and drug content.”
Coming 2 America is directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan) and also stars James Earl Jones, Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, Shari Headley, Kiki Layne, John Amos, and Louie Anderson. Check out the trailer and poster below.
