Around 32 years since the release of Coming to America and we have the trailer for the comedy’s sequel, simply titled Coming 2 America.
Eddie Murphy returns as African royal Akeem, who is now the newly-crowned king of Zamunda. When he learns that he has a long-lost son (played by Jermaine Fowlerr), and thus a new heir to the throne, in the United States, he and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) head off on a new adventure that finds them back in the borough of Queens, New York.
James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos and Louie Anderson are among the returning cast members, with Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, and Kiki Layne among the new faces. And yes, the motley barbershop crew is back – with Murphy and Hall playing multiple characters.
The “official trailer” below serves more as an introduction to the line-up rather than showcasing the film as a whole. Then again, that’s probably all that’s needed to whet appetites. Of course, you can expect a much bigger trailer to arrive before the film’s release.
Coming 2 America, directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan), will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video from March 5th, 2021.
