A number of images have been released from Crisis in Six Scenes, the first television project from Woody Allen.
The 60s-set, six-episode comedy, according to EW:
…focuses on a traditional suburban New York couple (Allen and Elaine May), their friend-of-the-family houseguest (John Magaro) and his fiancée (Rachel Brosnahan) who have their conservative beliefs challenged by a young hippie (Miley Cyrus) who’s caught up in the ’60s movement and inspired by radical communist leaders.
Allen has directed over 40 feature films, but this will mark the filmmaker’s fist series as director, writer, and actor. It’s a different medium for the four-time Oscar winner, and one that he admits he believed would be pretty easy to tackle.
“I thought, ‘I’ll sandwich this in between two films and knock it off. What’s the big deal? It’s television,’” Allen said in an in interview with THR. “But over the years, television has made enormous strides, and wonderful things are being done on television. And I found as soon as I started to get into the project, I couldn’t bring myself to slough it off because this is not television of 50 years ago, where every silly thing was acceptable.”
The images below provide a look at the period-comedy’s setting and cast, which also includes Michael Rapaport, Becky Ann Baker, Lewis Black, Margaret Ladd, Joy Behar, Rebecca Schull, David Harbour and Christine Ebersole.
Crisis in Six Scenes will be hitting Amazon on September 30.
