Kevin Feige Confirms Deadpool is Joining the MCU: “It Will Be Rated R”

Deadpool fans were torn when Disney bought Fox. While the prospect of having the Merc with a Mouth join all our favourite Marvel heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Heroes was undoubtedly exciting, there was concern that the character’s adult-oriented hijinks would be toned down under the Disney umbrella. Well…

“It will be rated R.”

That’s what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has point-blankly stated regarding the still-untitled Deadpool 3, which, as Feige has also confirmed, will indeed by a part of the MCU. Imagine seeing Ryan Reynold‘s Wade Wilson meeting Star-Lord and Spider-Man!?

Reynolds took to social media with a couple of perfect responses on the back of the R-rating-under-Disney confirmation: “First order of business: Find the guy who killed Bambi’s mom.”

Talking to Collider, Feige has shed some light on Deadpool’s next film, saying that the script is currently being written by Bob’s Burgers scribes Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux, with Reynolds overseeing it.

So yeah, with the R rating (US classification) and the MCU connection confirmed, plus word that the script is underway, it’s exciting stuff…. just don’t expect it to be hitting cinemas all that soon. Deadpool 3 won’t even be filming until 2022 – at the earliest.

“It will not be [filming] this year,” Feige said. “Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun.”

He added: “Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

There’s certainly a busy slate ahead for Marvel’s ever-expanding screen universe. Apart from the four Marvel films scheduled to hit cinemas this year, there are the highly-anticipated Disney+ shows, including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and Ms. Marvel. PLUS, they’re also working on Thor: Love and Thunder, Spider-Man 3, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Panther 2 and the next Captain Marvel, among other things. Phew!

As always, stay tuned. We’ll keep you up to date as we learn more.
