IMAX has released a featurette for the upcoming release of Deadpool, which director Tim Miller believes will be an epic outing on the giant screen.
“Deadpool is a very grounded comic book hero. He lives in a sh*tty apartment, he deals with sh*tty people, and his life is not filled with chrome and fast jets,” Miller, the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World creative supervisor making his feature directorial debut with the picture, says in this IMAX marketing piece.
“In fact, I think it’s the perfect contrast to the shinier sides of the Marvel Universe.”
While the Marvel-Netflix team up has seen a harsher, grittier side of Marvel introduced to the screen, Miller’s right when he says that Deadpool‘s non-PC stylings mark a change of pace for Marvel’s cinematic world. If the film proves to be a big success, chances are Marvel and other studios will be more willing to take a chance on superhero films targeted at adults. No pressure.
Deadpool, which will have its image and sound quality digitally re-mastered for IMAX, arrives in Australia on February 11 and in the U.S. on February 12.
