Fox Searchlight has unveiled the first trailer for Demolition, an upcoming drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
The film tells the story of Davis (Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker whose life falls apart after his wife dies in a tragic car crash. After complaining to a vending machine company because of their faulty machine at the hospital, Davis forms an unlikely connection with a customer service rep (Naomi Watts) and her son (Judah Lewis).
Director Jean-Marc Vallée has a good track-record of strong character studies, with both Dallas Buyers Club and Wild earning their leads acclaim. Gyllenhaal’s work has been fantastic of late, so we’re pretty confident that he’ll be putting in a worthy performance here, and having him work alongside the likes of Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper doesn’t hurt either.
Sure, the metaphors are almost laughably obvious, but there’s more than enough talent on both sides of the screen to ensure this is one to look out for.
Demolition is currently lined up for U.S. release on April 8, 2016.
