The third film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise is a big step closer to becoming a reality – we have the title!
Director Justin Lin, at the helm after another galaxy called J.J. Abrams far, far away and Star Trek co-writer Roberto Orci stepped down from what would have been his directorial debut, took to Twitter and revealed quite a bit with one tweet.
Not only do we now have the name of the third Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, we’ve also been given a look at the patch on the Starfleet: United Federation of Planets uniform.

Lin was key in turning the Fast & Furious franchise into the over-the-top craziness crowds have flocked in the last few films. While the huge box office hit that is Furious 7 was directed by James Wan, it was Lin who developed what would be the franchise’s wild tone; he directed The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6. Lin also directed the first two episodes of True Detective‘s second season. So, the question now comes down to whether or he’ll be bringing a bright new spark to the franchise rebooted with J.J. Abrams at the helm.
Star Trek Beyond, with a screenplay from actor Simon Pegg and Doug Jung (Dark Blue, Banshee), began production in Vancouver around 5 days ago and is set to hit U.S. cinemas on July 8, 2016.
