Netflix has released the official trailer for season 2, which the streamer will release outside the U.S. in August (in the U.S. it began airing on USA Network on June 2nd). The first season went to Netflix after first airing in the U.S. on Bravo, and starred Connie Britton and Eric Bana, telling of the troubling true relationship between mother Debra Newell and con man John Meehan.
The second season of the love-gone-wrong series stars Amanda Peet and Christian Slater and tells The Betty Broderick Story, following the shocking events of a marriage breakdown that led a mother of four to… well, we’ll avoid spoilers if you don’t know the case and leave you free to Google what went down.
If you were a fan of the first season, this new story should prove equally, if not more, engrossing. It also looks to have an all-in performance from Peet. The season has been quite well received by critics, holding an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Dirty John season 2, also starring Rachel Keller and Lily Donoghue, among others, will be streaming on Netflix from August 14th.
Synopsis for Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story:
Betty Broderick (Amanda Peet) was the perfect Southern California blonde wife and mother. Married to her handsome college boyfriend Dan (Christian Slater), Betty charms everyone she meets. After years of sacrifice and suffering, while supporting Dan through both medical and law school until he exploded into the San Diego legal community as a superstar, Betty is finally enjoying the fruits of their labors.
That is until Dan hires Linda, a bright, beautiful young woman without baggage with whom he can happily forget the struggles of his past. Betty’s attempts to fight back and enraged refusals to accept reality only serve to isolate and destabilize her until she loses her very identity. And Dan’s cold confidence blinds him to the bear he has created, and won’t stop poking … until it’s too late.
