The trailer has arrived for Don’t Breathe 2, the sequel to the 2016 horror-thriller hit that saw would-be robbers meeting a killer blind man (Stephen Lang, Avatar).
The sequel catches up with The Blind Man, Norman Nordstrom, years after that home-invasion-gone-wrong of the nail-biting first film. This time, surprisingly, we’re kind of on his side. When bad guys turn up and threaten to take the young girl (Madelyn Grace) that he’s taking care of, brutality ensues.
It’s an interesting choice to turn the tables for the sequel and have us essentially rooting for this guy, who was most definitely a bad guy in the first chapter – just remember his artificial insemination plan in the first film (ewww). Some slick direction and plenty of tense moments shown off in the trailer below, although it sure appears to give away a little too much when it comes to Norman’s kills.
Directing this time around is Rodo Sayagues, who co-wrote and co-produced the previous pic. Fede Alvarez, director of the first film, returns as co-writer with Sayagues and is attached as producer. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert also produce.
Don’t Breathe was both critically acclaimed and financially successful. Made for around $US10 million, the film went on to rake $US157 million in worldwide box office receipts.
Don’t Breathe 2, also starring Brendan Sexton III, Adam Young and Bobby Schofield, arrives in Australian cinemas on August 12th and opens in the US on August 13th.
