Don’t Breathe was one of the surprise hits of the year.
The twist on the home invasion horror film, focusing on the intruders as the victims as opposed to the home dweller, earned strong reviews and had word of mouth take it to a worldwide draw of $US152.4 million. Considering the film had a production budget of just $US9 million, that’s a huge hit.
Unsurprisingly, a sequel is now in development. Director Fede Alvarez and producer/writer Rodo Sayagues have confirmed to the folks over at Coming Soon that the follow-up project is in its early stages.
“There’s also going to be more Don’t Breathe,” said Sayagues.
Alvarez added: “We just started, but we know exactly where it goes. But we won’t tell you right now. But there will be more Don’t Breathe for sure.”
So, while the script is just getting started, the pair know very well where the sequel’s plot will be heading.
Don’t Breathe spoilers ahead.
The first film finished off with Jane Levy’s Rocky and her younger sister heading to a Detroit train bound for Los Angeles, while a news report informs that Stephen Lang’s The Blind Man is alive in hospital. We learn that he hasn’t informed the authorities about Rocky and the amount of money that was taken.
Could the sequel see him track her down in her L.A. for some vengeance? Or will another group of would-be robbers find themselves entering the wrong house?
Apart from Don’t Breathe‘s currently-untitled sequel, Alvarez has started working on The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel he’s set to helm for Sony Pictures.
