Emile Hirsch, arguably best known for his roles in Speed Racer and Into the Wild, has been cast in Just Jim, the directorial debut of actor Craig Roberts. Roberts, known for Submarine and The Double, will be playing the title role.
Just Jim tells the story of a teenager loser (Roberts) whose life takes quite a turn with the introduction of a mysterious and handsome neighbour (Hirsch).
Filming on the picture will begin this week, with a Wales-set shoot that will go for three weeks. “It’s surreal to be back in my home town shooting a movie,” said Roberts on his first outing as a feature film director. “I’m excited to work with a great cast and I hope Emile likes Maesycwmmer.” For those unaware, Maesycwmmer is a village and community in the centre of Caerphilly County Borough in Wales.
Just Jim, also starring Aneirin Hughes, Nia Roberts, Richard Harrington, Matthew Aubrey, Ryan Owen and Charlotte Randall, will be released by Soda Pictures in the UK and Ireland sometime next year.
Hirsch, who was recently seen in the Mark Wahlberg-starring drama Lone Survivor, will next be starring opposite Hailee Steinfeld, Asa Butterfield, and Ethan Hawke in the drama Ten Thousand Saints.
