Production is officially underway on the eighth entry in the franchise that started all the way back in 2001.
Vin Diesel has taken to Instagram with two videos from the set of Fast 8, which is currently shooting in Havana, Cuba.
“We’re in a place that nobody thought would even be possible,” Diesel says in the first video below. He’s referring to the fact that the film is shooting in a location that simply wasn’t an option until now. Fast 8 is the first major studio picture to shoot in Cuba, thanks to the lifting of a decades-long trade embargo.
Director F. Gary Gray, who previously directed Diesel in the 2003 thriller A Man Apart and is coming off a hit with Straight Outta Compton, must certainly be feeling the pressure at this point. After all, Furious 7 topped $US1.5 billion in worldwide box office receipts.
Fast 8 will see Diesel returning alongside Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jason Statham, Lucas Black, and Kurt Russell, with Charlize Theron on board as the big new villain. The film is set for U.S. release on April 14, 2017.
