Fans of Universal’s Fast & Furious franchise have reason to celebrate: there’s at least three more movies on the way.
The studio has locked in release dates for Fast & Furious 8, 9, and 10, which star and producer Vin Diesel had long ago revealed would be a trilogy of sorts to finish off the series.
Diesel took to his Instagram account with an image confirming the release dates for the next three films in the franchise. As per a U.S. release schedule, Fast 8 will be released on April 14, 2017, Fast & Furious 9 will arrive on April 19, 2019, and Fast & Furious 10 will conclude the series on April 2, 2021.
Those wondering why the Fast & Furious franchise continues to speed on need only look at the numbers. The seven films in the series have brought in over $3.8 billion combined, and $1.5 billion of that amount came from the last film alone. Clearly, Universal doesn’t want to kill a good thing. And while the series looks to have a ten-film run, there’s still the possibility that spinoffs and prequels will spark up connected franchises.
Fast 8 is to be directed by F. Gary Gray, who recently gave distributor Universal quite the hit with Straight Outta Compton.
