A featurette has been released offering the first look at Russell Crowe’s upcoming directorial debut, The Water Diviner. The film tells the story of an Australian man (Crowe) who travels to Turkey to search for the remains of his three sons after they were killed during WWI. Crowe himself narrates this great featurette, which offers plenty of footage from the film. It’s a reverential story, and one that looks to be quite cinematic in scope. The flashbacks to the sons fighting brings to mind Peter Weir’s 1981 classic Gallipoli, which can only be a good thing. Fingers crossed Russell Crowe delivers a powerful film here. If all goes well, we imagine that we’ll be seeing him behind the camera many more times to follow.
Starring Russell Crowe, Olga Kurylenko, Yilmaz Erdogan, Cem Yilmaz, Jai Courtney, Ryan Corr and Jacqueline McKenzie.
