‘Free Guy’: Ryan Reynolds Unveils New Release Date and New Clip

Twentieth Century Fox

Remember Free Guy? Among the many, many, ugh… so many films that are being postponed as COVID-19 sends studios back to the drawing board with their release dates is Ryan Reynolds movie Free Guy, which had been lined up for a July release.

As confirmed by Reynolds, the action-comedy-sci-fi pic is now scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release this coming December 11th. That date needs to come with a “fingers crossed” emoji next to it, which is exactly what happens at the end of a new clip Reynolds has released online. Amusingly, the clip also comes with a massive watermark from Fox. “We cut it a while ago (while there was still a Fox and before it was just 20th Century Pictures) and couldn’t finish it so ignore the watermarks,” Reynolds wrote in the description.

Free Guy has Reynolds playing a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game. He decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself.
