Gal Gadot to Play Evil Queen in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Movie

Gal Gadot has signed up to take on the role of the Evil Queen in Disney‘s planned live-action Snow White movie.

The Wonder Woman star will be playing the classic villain character in a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1937animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was the first animated feature from studio giant.

Deadline broke the news of Gadot’s casting, reporting that Disney execs “always had their eye on Gadot for the role” and that the star “was also intrigued at the opportunity of joining stars like Angelina Jolie and Cate Blanchett,” both of whom played iterations of Disney villains – Maleficent and Cinderella’s stepmother, respectively.

Set to play Snow White in the film is Rachel Zegler (pictured below), the rapidly rising star whose upcoming credits include a lead role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and a part in DC sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

The picture is to be directed by Marc Webb, known for helming the two Amazing Spider-Man films, (500) Days of Summer, and Gifted. Oscar and Tony award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind the music from La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen, are on board to write new songs.

Disney is expected to have production on the new Snow White movie underway in 2022.

Gadot can be seen opposite Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice, hitting Netflix on November 12th. Gadot’s upcoming credits include Murder on the Orient Express sequel Death on the Nile, espionage thriller Heart of Stone, and Cleopatra, a historical epic set to reunite her with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. Wonder Woman 3 is also currently in the works.
