The trailer has been released for horror-war movie Ghosts of War, starring Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites, Theo Rossi and Billy Zane, among others.
Written and directed by Eric Bress, whose sole feature before this was the 2004 Ashton Kutcher-starring The Butterfly Effect, Ghosts of War follows five American soldiers that are assigned to hold a French mansion in the late stages of the Second World War. Not only do they have an enemy outside they have to watch out for, they soon discover that the chateau holds supernatural malevolence.
The horror twist on the war movie has long been a B-movie cross genre, but can work well – 2018’s oh-so entertaining Overlord comes to mind. We’ll see what we’re in for here. Hopefully the film – with its somewhat exploitative narrative – packs a punch with the scares and unfolding drama, and fingers crossed the production doesn’t hold it back, too.
Ghosts of War, also starring Alan Ritchson, Skylar Astin, Kyle Gallner, and Shaun Toub, will be released by Vertical Entertainment in the U.S. on Digital and On Demand on July 17.
Official synopsis for Ghosts of War:
Five battle-hardened American soldiers are assigned to hold a French Chateau near the end of World War II. Formerly occupied by the Nazi high command, this unexpected respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy far more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield.
