The first trailer has dropped for Gods of Egypt, the upcoming action-adventure from director Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow, I Robot).
Gods of Egypt imagines Egypt’s early days through the lens of mythology, as Set (Gerard Butler) plunges Egypt into chaos when he takes the eyes of Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and takes the throne. Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a mortal human, heads on an journey to save the world and rescue his gal.
This special effects-driven fantasy looks to offer some entertainment for those who enjoyed 300 or Immortals. There’s a decent cast and the tone is more or less fun, but we’re not too sure there’s enough here to help it rise above silly and forgettable popcorn fare. We’ll see.
Penned by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the scribes behind Dracula Untold and The Last Witch Hunter.
Gods of Egypt, also starring Courtney Eaton, Elodie Yung, Chadwick Boseman and Geoffrey Rush, hits Australia on February 25 and the U.S. on February 26.
