Sucks to be in the crew of Marvel‘s planned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The threequel was gearing up for pre-production when Disney decided to fire James Gunn, the result of his past inappropriate tweets being unearthed by certain right wing individuals. The cast of the films – including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and especially Dave Bautista – showed their support and the fans made their feelings heard, but to no avail. Even a last-minute meeting between Gunn and Disney chairman Alan Horn proved futile, with Horn simply confirming to Gunn that his services were indeed no longer required.
The search has been on for a new director to take on the project that was to begin filming in January or February. The hunt hasn’t been quick, and it appears that Disney isn’t in a major rush.
According to THR…
“Sources say that crewmembers, which is, at this stage, a small group that was prepping for preproduction, are being dismissed and are free to look for new work.”
The powers that be at Disney and Marvel, particularly Kevin Feige, are said to now be “regrouping” on the project. The initial timeline that Guardians 3 had to materialise has now been scrapped, which isn’t too much of a blow for the studios since no release date for the film had ever been announced.
Sigh. Stay tuned as the search for a new director continues.
