That’s right, the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel is officially on the way.
Cameras have started rolling on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to James Gunn’s hit Marvel picture. Principal photography is now underway at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.
Marvel announced the start of shooting by releasing a press release containing confirmation of returning and new cast members. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista are back playing Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax respectively, with Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel returning to voice Rocket and Groot – although it isn’t known if the latter will be an infant form the whole time (Diesel voicing baby Groot would be awesome). New cast members include Pom Klementieff, cast as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and, that’s right, Kurt Russell.
While it has now officially been confirmed that Russell is on board, there’s no word as to whether or not he’ll be playing that big role he’s been rumoured for. Either way, as described in the release, the film “continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, boasting a creative team that includes director of photography Henry Braham (The Legend of Tarzan), production designer Scott Chambliss (Star Trek), returning editors Frek Raskin and Craig Wood, and returning score composer Tyler Bates, is scheduled to hit U.S. screens on May 5, 2017.
